2020 Port Nicholson Regatta
5 – 8 March 2020
Entries close Saturday 29 February for the 2020 Port Nicholson Regatta in Wellington.
Sports Boats will race only Saturday and Sunday [refer NTC#2].
The 2020 Port Nicholson Regatta invites entries from keelboats, trailer yachts, multihulls, sports boats, and sport multihulls.
In 2020, there’s something for everyone with three racing programmes to choose from. ‘The Full Monty’ provides the traditional challenge of a full regatta racing experience (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). There is ‘The Weekender’ with spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions for those preferring to compete on Saturday and Sunday only. ‘The Harbour Races’ has been introduced to include a Classic Yachts Race on Saturday and the Wellington Harbour Rally on Sunday (including a non-spinnaker division).
Lawson’s Dry Hills Charity Cup Invitation Race
We open the Port Nicholson Regatta in convivial style with the Lawson’s Dry Hills Charity Cup Invitation Race. A short pursuit race held early evening with invited guests aboard competing yachts in support of Live Ocean (Peter Burling and Blair Tuke’s new charity), Wellington Free Ambulance, and Britannia Sea Scouts. After racing, join us at the Club for prizes, donations and a relaxed buffet meal with complimentary wine (buy tickets here). The perfect start to our regatta weekend!
Regatta Gift Packs
Skippers entered in The Full Monty and Weekender will receive a Regatta Gift Pack (subject to availability). Visiting boats also receive additional benefits to ease the burden of travel, priority booking at Chaffers Marina ; a case of Steinlager beer; and the opportunity to enjoy Port Nic’s famous ‘boat shed experience’ courtesy of local skippers – providing somewhere to call ‘home’, leave your gear, change your sea boots, and re-hydrate.
Bonus Training Sessions: Make The Boat Go Faster!
Come and sharpen your skills without the pressure of racing with expert coaching from Wellington Ocean Sports. Sessions start on the water 6:00pm Tuesday 18 February and 6:00pm Tuesday 25 February. A debrief will follow at about 8:00pm. If the weather is not suitable, it’ll be an on shore theory session starting at 6pm at Wellington Ocean Sports. Register your interest here – it’s FREE for participants entered in the Port Nicholson Regatta.
The Port Nicholson Regatta in Wellington attracts entries from around New Zealand and sailors from across the country and overseas – we hope you will join us.
